Palác Akropolis (Akropolis palace) is run by Art Frame Palác Akropolis, a company set up in 2004 to ensure transparent management. Until 2005, the place had been managed by Centrum nezávislé kultury (Independent Cultural Centre). There are few new faces in the production team. Akropolis focuses on concerts and theatrical performances although it also presents films,literatureandorganisesworkshopsasasideline.

Palác Akropolis commenced its performing arts activities at the end of the 1990s. Divadlo M.U.T., a then up-and-coming theatre company, used it as their home stage for two years. They were among the firstCzechtheatregroupstointroduce“cool-britania”dramaand,inonewayor another, they‘ve been involved in all the Akropolis’ ventures.

Theatrical performances currently account for about a third of the main hall’s programme. Since 2005, contemporary theatrical performances of various genres have been presented under the rubric “dVA” (divadlo v Akropolis – theatre in Akropolis). The idea is provide an outlet for groups and individuals whose work does not fitwithintheconfinesoftraditionaltheatre.Thisis the type of theatre that best meets the criterion of “alternative” as it seeks out new directions and means of expression. This is not to say that amateur groups or established foreign and Czech artists are ignored.


Technical equipment
